Established - May 13, 2000, by Order of President of Russian Federation.

Territory - 1 038 000 kм² (6,1% of national territory).

Capital – Nizhny Novgorod.

Population - over 30 bln pers. (21,3 % of national population).

Per capital income - 2940 RUR (2002).

Industrial production- 1,3 bln RUR (2002).

Oil and natural gas - 20% of all Russian extraction.

GRP  – over 15% of Russian GNP.

Manufacturing sector –  24,5% of GRP (19,3% of national manufacturing sector).

Mining – 13,7% of GRP (10,5% national mining).

Nransportation - 9,7% of GRP (10,0% of national transportation).
